Benefits of Carpet Flooring

Most popular in bedrooms and rooms where people tend to gather and relax, such as a living room, carpeted flooring is a great candidate for conserving warmth and therefore energy during the cooler months of the year. While firmer flooring like tile and hardwood come in a variety of options, installing carpet flooring is an affordable option complete with also nearly an infinite selection of colors, patterns and functions to meet the needs of any style room. Besides being an affordable and durable option, carpet made of wool fiber can also improve the air quality of a room as the fibers trap dust and particles that would normally be floating throughout the room. Still need convincing? Carpeting reduces noise, minimizes slipping, and is easy to care for and maintain. Most comfortable areas of your home will have carpeting with a cut pile characteristic which comes in several styles that brings a different look and texture.

Types of Carpet Flooring

Wool carpeting is one of the only natural fibers used today in carpeting. Because the material is scarce, this is one of the more expensive options in all-to-wall carpeting and carpet installation in your home or commercial space. Wool is considered a soft and luxurious style of carpet that is easy to clean and ages well with a fibrous structure that hide dirt easily making it hypo-allergenic.

Stemming from the more expensive options, Nylon has become a formulated synthetic fiber which works extremely well as a material option in carpeting. The evolution of nylon has led to a stain-resistant carpet which is affordable and works well in heavily trafficked areas. Due to the man-made process of creating nylon, the carpeting comes in a variety of colors and can match nearly any style room.

Fun fact, polyester in carpeting is created from recycled bottles. Having a polyester carpet installed in your home means not only is it a sustainable product, but its advantages are being stain-resistant, does not fade easily in sunlight, more affordable than other style carpets and eliminates static-electricity. However, polyester is not as durable as nylon and can be ‘crushed’ by the weight of heavy-sitting furniture over a period of time.

A synthetic fiber made from a polyolefin, such as polypropylene or polyethylene, this material is moisture and mildew resistant. Olefin carpeting material is usually seen throughout basements or places which may see more moisture, such as a covered patio or porch. As a less expensive option, there are also less choices in style. However, if you are looking for an option for an area that may see moisture, Olefin is a great choice.

Within the past several years, this fiber for carpeting has become increasingly popular because of its resistance to fading and staining. It is often seen as a lower-priced alternative to nylon carpeting. It is also seen as a material that is more resistant and resilient compared with polyester.
